2024 Theme: Mission to Mars
Embark on an exhilarating journey to the red planet with our immersive engineering camp designed for curious minds in grades 5th through 8th. At our camp, participants will dive into the thrilling world of space exploration, learning the fundamental principles of engineering while working towards the ultimate goal: a simulated mission to Mars.
Throughout the camp, budding engineers will engage in hands-on activities, interactive workshops, and exciting challenges tailored to enhance their problem-solving skills, teamwork abilities, and creativity. Our expert instructors, passionate about both engineering and education, will guide campers through a series of captivating missions, each one presenting unique engineering obstacles inspired by real-life challenges faced by NASA and other space agencies.
Campers will have the opportunity to:
- Design and construct their own Mars rovers capable of navigating challenging terrain.
- Engineer habitats suitable for sustaining life on the Martian surface, considering factors such as environmental conditions and resource management.
- Develop communication systems to establish contact with mission control and fellow astronauts.
- Learn about rocket propulsion and design as they build and launch model rockets.
- Explore the science behind space travel, including gravity, orbit mechanics, and the challenges of living in microgravity.
In addition to the hands-on projects, campers will also have the chance to interact with guest speakers, including engineers, scientists, and astronauts, who will share their expertise and experiences in space exploration.
By the end of the camp, participants will not only have gained a deeper understanding of engineering principles but also a newfound appreciation for the challenges and excitement of space exploration. Join us for an unforgettable journey as we reach for the stars and set our sights on Mars!
Eligibility and Application
All students entering the entering 6th through 9th grades in Fall 2024 are eligible to apply.
Application, registration, and payment (or scholarship documentation) will all be completed in one step for 2024. Once complete, you will be set for attendance and will receive additional details approximately 3 weeks prior to arrival.
